Why are they called Baby Rugs? Well first of all, they are made baby size. They measure approximately 35" x 20" (89cm x 51cm). Perfect for fitting into a bassinette, cot, pram or stroller. Babies love to lie on wool - it is warm, cuddly, and soft. One of the best surfaces to lie on, lovely for sensory soothing.
(NB: If laying baby to sleep on a sheepskin rug, please cover the rug with a sheet or blanket and lay baby on their back only).
Here in New Zealand, we put sheepskins in our prams or strollers to ensure our babies' back and kidneys are kept warm, and to make their ride super-comfortable. We also strongly believe in babies having "tummy-time", so we lay our babies down on a sheepskin rug where they can practise their neck-strengthening and crawling in comfort. (Again, in the interests of safety, never leave your baby unattended when face-down on the rug).
As babies mature, their sheepskin rug becomes a favorite mat to play on and a comforter to cuddle up with.
The rug is machine washable and has been specially sanitised to protect our beloved babies. It carries the registered Sanitized tag, an internationally recognised standard in hygiene protection. Its antibacterial properties give the lambskin a longer life, while hindering odour development, protecting the lambskin from bacterial growth.
Care instructions: Daily airing will keep the lambskin fresh. Sponge off small, lightly soiled areas and towel dry where necessary. A complete wash is recommended monthly if lambskin is for infant or medical use. For washing, use a mild liquid wool clothes wash or baby wash detergent using the minimum wash cycle. Do not use washing soaps or powders containing enzymes or bleach. Rinse thoroughly in warm water. Do not use fabric softeners. Line dry or tumble dry on cool or warm setting. Keep out of direct sunlight when drying. Do not place the lambskin on a radiator or in front of a convector or fan heater as this will damage the skin. Also dry-cleanable.
